Abstract Walter Carnielli: In his "Logic, Language, and Knowledge" Chateaubriand denounces the tyranny of belief Chapter 22 , but takes some positions on knowledge and justification Chapter 24 which seem to be too exacting. The fact The fact that Chateaubriand derives constraints on the notion of justification by a close parallel to the notion of proof makes it unnecessarily loaded with the individual, rather than with the collective perspective.
His position seems to leave little room for common knowledge, collective knowledge and usual common-sense knowledge, and absolutely no room for explaining how people take correct decisions based on apparently faulty notions of knowledge and justification. Abstract response: Walter Carnielli argues that my position about knowledge and justification emphasizes individual knowledge, is too demanding, and is anti-psychologistic. In my response I argue that this reflects a misunderstanding of the view of knowledge and justification sketched in my book, and that our views on these issues are much closer than he imagines.

New Releases. Theory Of Knowledge : Second Edition. Description In this impressive second edition of Theory of Knowledge, Keith Lehrer introduces students to the major traditional and contemporary accounts of knowing. Beginning with the traditional definition of knowledge as justified true belief, Lehrer explores the truth, belief, and justification conditions on the way to a thorough examination of foundation theories of knowledge, the work of Platinga, externalism and naturalized epistemologies, internalism and modern coherence theories, contextualism, and recent reliabilist and causal theories.
Lehrer gives all views careful examination and concludes that external factors must be matched by appropriate internal factors to yield knowledge.
